Sequoia Chenin Blanc '24
Adriaan van Zyl used to be the assistant winemaker to Swartland's natty wine godfather, Craig Hawkins of Testalonga. Recently though, he's ventured out to make his own mark on the Swartland.
For his maiden vintage, grapes from dry-farmed 45 year old bush vines in the Paardeberg are wild fermented in seasoned French oak before an extended élevage of 8 months on lees and 9 months in neutral barrels.
The result is an unmistakably granite-driven Chenin that's bright and friendly, taut and textured, and shaped by time and tough soils rather than fuss. Expect pears, green apple skin, and chamomile vanilla tea on the nose with a layered palate of citrus and stone fruit all wrapped up in a firm mineral grip.
