Pleasure Garden Palomino '21
In Spain, Palomino is celebrated as the soul of Sherry. In the Cape, its neutral profile was once the backbone of brandy before Chenin Blanc's fruit-forward personality became the preference.
The few Palomino vineyards that were left behind and somewhat forgotten grew in complexity and now offer up clusters of nuance and nostalgia. Some sentimental winemakers have rescued the last of what's left to make wine that preserves a piece of the past.
Francois Haasbroek is one of those winemakers and Pleasure Garden is his textured time capsule of the nearly centennial Robertson vineyard he rediscovered.
